Kenneth Marchant represents Texas's 24th congressional district. During the 2003 Texas redistricting, the 24th District, then represented by 13-term incumbent Democrat Martin Frost, was significantly redrawn, turning it from a heavily Democratic district into a heavily Republican district. The new district is centered around Carrollton, which Marchant has represented for a quarter century.
Marchant has fought to end illegal immigration by pushing to enforce existing laws and has voted to strengthen U.S. borders. He has opposed plans to give amnesty to over 10 million people. “Amnesty is not an option, rewarding those who break the law does not solve the problem,” stated Marchant.
Marchant has been recognized by the Family Research Council as a “True Blue Member of Congress” for his unwavering commitment to strong family values.
Earlier this year, Minority Leader Boehner appointed Congressman Marchant to the powerful House Committee on Financial Services. Marchant has a history of being a fiscal conservative. He has been recognized by Americans for Tax Reform as a “Hero of the Taxpayer” and “Small Business Champion.” Most recently, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce presented Marchant with its “Spirit of Enterprise” award.
Recently, Congressman Marchant received the "Defender of Economic Freedom" award from the Club for Growth for 2008. The "Defender of Economic Freedom Award" is given to those members of Congress who receive a score of 90 or higher. This score is based on key fiscal conservative votes.
Congressman Marchant was also recognized by the Club for Growth because of his pledge to swear off pork in 2009. Marchant is one of only four Texas lawmakers to swear off pork in 2009. Marchant was also recognized by Citizens Against Government Waste for his no pork pledge.
In 2008, Congressman Marchant received a 100 rating from the American Conservative Union based on his voting record on social, economic, and foreign policy issues. And National Journal ranked Marchant as the 15th most conservative member of the House of Representatives in 2008.
